How Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s Glam Team Prepped Her Avant-Garde Emmys Look (Exclusive)
The Breakdown
Da'Vine Joy Randolph's recent avant-garde look for the Emmys, which featured a shaved head and a custom-made gown made of recycled materials turned heads. Here's a peek at how her glam team pulled it together.
Hair: Lacy Redway
Randolph's hairstylist, Lacy Redway, got inspired by a photo of Josephine Baker and thought that doing a shaved head would be a good way to replicate the flapper look. Before giving her a completely shaved head though, she first trimmed Randolph's hair short and tried on a bald cap. Randolph liked the look, so they went ahead and shaved her head. It took Redway five hours to complete the shaved head look.
Makeup: Ashunta Sheriff
For Randolph's makeup, Ashunta Sherriff used Pat McGrath Labs products. She first applied a foundation to even out Randolph's skin tone. Next was a concealer to cover any blemishes. She then applied a setting powder, bronzer, and nude blush for definition. For her eyes, she used an eyeshadow palette and created a winged eyeliner look. She completed the look with a nude lip.
Dress: Jason Rembert
The custom-made gown Randolph wore was designed by Jason Rembert, who is known for his work with celebrities like Beyoncé and Rihanna. The gown was constructed using recycled materials, which fit the sustainable theme Randolph wanted for her look. Rembert used a variety of fabrics and embellishments to create a gown that was both original and stylish.
