Boston Celtics Name Joe Mazzulla Permanent Head Coach
The Boston Celtics have named Joe Mazzulla their permanent head coach, the team announced Thursday.
Key Points
- Mazzulla has been the interim head coach since September 2022.
- The Celtics are currently the leaders of the Eastern Conference.
- Mazzulla previously served as an assistant coach for the Celtics under Ime Udoka.
Mazzulla's appointment comes after the Celtics' former coach, Ime Udoka, was suspended for the entire 2022-23 season due to violations of team policies.
Under Mazzulla's leadership, the Celtics have compiled a 42-17 record, including 18-4 since the All-Star break.
"Joe has shown tremendous leadership and a deep understanding of our team and our culture," said Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens. "We are confident that he is the right person to lead our team going forward."
